I am researching how SciArt (science-themed art) is created and shared in the public domain, specifically Twitter. Many SciArt events are limited by venue, admission prices and time, but a public forum such as Twitter allows anyone to both create and share SciArt. There has yet to be any quantification of this activity however, and so I will be investigating how the use of the hashtag #SciArt has increased or decreased over time and to what extent the network that is created in the sharing of SciArt is tightly or loosely knit. In doing this we will be able to see whether SciArt is shared in a small community, or it is reaching a more diverse audience.

I am researching open source tools that help various stakeholders to quantify and analyze social media data. There are many analysis tools that currently exist but they are often limited to those with financial means or insitutional access. My goal is to create a tool, or set of tools, that are open and accessible.
